Mojácar Playa is full of places to eat all the way along. Mojácar Pueblo has
more although we haven't eaten in as many places there yet. Best bet is to have a walk or drive
around & see what takes your fancy.
Places we have eaten that we liked :-
- La Gaviota is probably the best restaurant on the
Playa. An excellent Italian
restaurant at the bottom of the hill from the apartment, great food and
excellent service. Jose the owner is great entertainment in himself. Telephone 950 472 117.
- Tito's - Excellent beach bar on Mojácar Playa. Quite how they get such
excellent food out of a kitchen as tiny as that baffles us but they do so
regularly. Can recommend the Lamb with rice, and the Eggs Benedict, also the
Sunday lunch. Menu was Thai on Fridays last time we visited. Telephone 950 615 030, closed
December to March.
- La Cabana - fantastic Argentinean steakhouse, well worth a visit.
You will definitely need to book for this, telephone 950 615 179. Guarantee
the best steak you will ever taste.
- For English fish & chips, the best in the
area is Zak's Plaice, the take-away off the main street in Garrucha, run by an English
couple. Look carefully on the right-hand side as you go down the main street
going in the Mojácar direction for a sign pointing up the
side street & you'll find the chippie a short way up there on the left.
You can phone them on 950 133 193 and order, it's about 15 minutes drive
away.
- Bar Maui is our favourite beach bar, and is
also on our favourite piece of beach,
Playa del Cantal
(Central Beach) . The food menu has expanded greatly in
the last year and we have always found it very good.
- Wu Zhou is an excellent Chinese, the best we've
ever eaten in. Turn left onto the Playa from the apartment and you will see
it just past Wisebuys, look for the yellow and red sign.
- El Antler in the Pueblo is excellent, good food and
friendly service. Usually need to book, 600 540 661
- The Mediterraneo pizza restaurant next to Tarleton
Travel does good pizzas. The dining room has an excellent view of the beach
and sea.
- Torre Bahia is an excellent Spanish restaurant, it
has a big fish menu (not our personal cup of tea) but the meat dishes are
excellent for all the family.
- Another good, family restaurant, run by an English couple, is Lyke's.
They do an excellent fixed price, three course, Sunday evening roast (Beef,
Lamb, Pork) and will also do a children's meal. For Sunday Evening you will have
to book (950 478 736). Turn left out of the apartment road, and follow the
steep road upwards for about 3/4 mile
and watch out for the entrance to Lyke's on your right.
- The Restaurant Los Pastores at Cotijo Cabrera is
very good with a fabulous location. It makes Pizzas on the premises,
and also has an excellent range of Steaks and other
good food. Opens lunch times and evenings and can be found by taking the
Mojácar to Turre road, going through Turre towards the motorway and look for
the left hand turn about a mile outside of Turre signposted to Cabrera. Take
this left turn, and follow the road through and up the mountain road (it
takes about 15-20 minutes.) At the top of this road is the Restaurant. If you
decide to go for an evening meal then you will definitely have to book (950
468 002). The best time to go is anytime between 8pm and 9pm.
- Roly's is a nice English bar at the end of the
Playa near the Indalo Hotel. Food is very good, we even had Christmas Dinner
here.
- Bar Stop in Turre is an excellent English
restaurant, one of the better ones in the area. Usual English fare, burger,
chips, breakfast etc, but very good.
- For an excellent Spanish Restaurant there is the Adelina in Turre (closed on a
Monday). The staff speak very limited English but they do have an English
language translation of their menu. The fish is excellent and as a starter the
locally made black pudding” which is a local black sausage with almonds and is
very tasty. Again their steaks are excellent as are their other dishes.
- You can also eat at the
Desert Springs Golf Resort
or just drop in for a drink or coffee. They have a Sunday Roast,
telephone 637 746 706.
If out just for a coffee, we've found
that local Spanish run bars serve far superior coffee to those run by
the British.
